Help with RSS Feeds
What is RSS?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is way you can keep up-to-date with the latest headlines, stories and information from your favourite sites very easily.
RSS automatically updates you on news from your favourite sites as it is added, so it you don’t have to constantly check different sites to keep up-to-date.
RSS allows you to keep tabs on news from many sites from one central place - this can be either your internet browser like Firefox, Flock or Safari, or a special newsreader you can install on your computer.
Every so often RSS will check the web feeds of websites you subscribe to and let you know if there's been any updates. You will be able to see at a glance what's new allowing you to keep up-to-date with the minimum effort.
How do I get a newsreader?
This is very easy to do. Many big online companies such as Google and Yahoo! have their own reader service and if you already have any account with them, you will be able to use their reader; if not, it is very easy to sign up.
Some readers, such as Feedreader, are applications that you download to your computer, but many are web-based so you can access them anywhere – such as the popular and free Bloglines and Netvibes.
Both Firefox and Internet Explorer 7.0 allow you to receive feeds from your tool bar by using the Live Bookmarks and Favorites sections respectively. They are both free to download.
You can look for the feed reader that best suits your needs at RSS Compendium. Just pick one, create an account and away you go.
