The Institute of Development Studies is a leading global institution for research, teaching and communications on international development, based at the University of Sussex.
The STEPS Centre at IDS is seeking a Communications Assistant for a brand new role delivering a range of exciting and innovative communications activities for its research linking technology and environmental sustainability with poverty reduction and social justice.
The ideal candidate will be a communications professional combining strong organisational, writing, web and multimedia skills with a high degree of initiative, imagination and flair for cutting-edge communications. This role needs someone with the skills necessary to help translate research findings into impactful messages for policy, practitioner, media and lay audiences.
Skills and experience in Web 2.0 and digital media (video, audio) applications are required.
Working with the STEPS Communications Manager, postholder duties include: the creation of a publications strategy; maintenance of the STEPS Centre’s digital media platforms - websites, blog, RSS and Twitter feeds, video and audio channels; writing, editing and production of print and electronic research, policy-engagement and publicity materials (including video and audio) and a quarterly e-newsletter; assisting with PR, media and events; and monitoring and evaluating our communications work.

Salary: Initial appointment will be between Salary: £23,228 - £24,515 notional, pro rata (depending on experience), in the IDS Grade 5 range £23,228 - £28,220 pa)
